Week two of the 2026 NFL season was manifestly momentous and historically significant, and I convey that central observation without equivocation. I was joined by Ed Kleese as we cataloged an array of notable milestones, among them Devin Lloyd’s exceedingly rare single-game compilation of a sack, multiple interceptions, and a touchdown; Patrick Mahomes’ ascension to an 8–0 mark in regular-season overtime contests, thereby establishing a new NFL benchmark; and the fact that no new Scorigami was recorded this week, with 41–31 (Buffalo over Detroit) registering as the rarest final score. We examined franchise-specific anomalies and streaks, including the Panthers’ defensive resurgence, the Steelers’ prolonged difficulties in Foxborough since the Brady era, Dak Prescott’s record-tying dominance in AT&T Stadium against NFC East opponents, and the Browns’ emerging rookie Denzel Boston entering the record books with successive long touchdown receptions. We further observed that the Packers–Jets 20–17 result remains the most prevalent final score in league annals, now occurring for the 303rd time, and that our week-two Scorigami ME index registered a 73.18. I invite the audience to regard these developments as substantive contributions to the evolving ledger of football history, and we will continue to preserve and expound upon such records in subsequent discussions.

The second week of this NFL season was great and historic indeed.
Speaker A:We have Ed Cleese joining us once again to tell us about some great history, some records that were set, and some interesting factoids.
Speaker A:Ed joins us in just a moment.
Speaker A:Hello, my football friends.
Speaker A:This is Darren Hayes of pigskindispatch.com welcome once again to the Pig Pen, your portal to positive football history.
Speaker A:in the NFL season of:Speaker A:Ed Cleese joins me to go over the history of this past week.
Speaker A:Ed, welcome back to the Pig Pen.
Speaker B:Hey, Darren, how's going on?
Speaker A:Hey.
Speaker A:It is a great day to be an NFL fan because we had some great things happen over this weekend.
Speaker A:Maybe not to your team and my team, but some really some overall great things in the NFL.
Speaker A:So what are your thoughts on this past week?
Speaker B:Sure.
Speaker B:Well, we'll start with the Thursday night game.
Speaker B:The Bills took care of the Lions.
Speaker B:That was the sixth straight win for the for the Bills over the Lions.
Speaker B:The Lions have not beaten Buffalo in 20 years.
Speaker B:ast time they beat him was in:Speaker B:time they won in Buffalo was:Speaker B:And one that was a game that went to overtime late in December.
Speaker B:And that was kind of an interesting year because the Bills would go on to lose the super bowl to the Redskins and the Lions would lose the NFC Championship game to the Redskins.
Speaker B:So both of those teams are really good in 91, but it's been, whatever that is, 35 years now since Detroit won in Buffalo.
Speaker A:And they're both really good teams this year.
Speaker A:But it looked like one team was much better than the other.
Speaker A:They really put into that that inaugural opening of that new stadium up in Buffalo.
Speaker A:The Bills really did some good things for their fans.
Speaker B:Yes.
Speaker B:And speaking of much better than one team being much better than the other, the Panthers absolutely destroyed the Falcons on Sunday.
Speaker B:That is, I think, the 63rd time those teams have played because of course, they're in the same division.
Speaker B:But this is actually the Panthers longest winning streak against the Falcons.
Speaker B:They have won four games in a row against the Falcons and that is the longest streak they've ever had against Atlanta.
Speaker A:Yeah, and some amazing things.
Speaker A:I mean, what a turnaround for that defense for Carolina.
Speaker A:They gave up 59 in week one to the Bears, only give up three points to the Falcons.
Speaker A:Frustrated Coach Stefanski and his offense he brought in Bijon was a little bit frustrated, I think.
Speaker A:And over 20 seasons, just three players have recorded A sack and multiple interceptions and a touchdown in a single contest.
Speaker A:Charles Woodson,:Speaker A:So some history was made.
Speaker B:And it was funny that you use that as the Bears game from last week as a segue to what I'm about to talk about, because The Bears scored 56 points.
Speaker B:I'm sorry, they scored 59 points in Week 1.
Speaker B:The Bears scored three points in Week 2.
Speaker B:So if you're really good at math like me, then you know that that is a 56 point disparity.
Speaker B:Do you think that that is the greatest disparity we've ever seen from week one and week two?
Speaker B:Or do you think there's anybody out there that can beat it?
Speaker B:56 Point disparity.
Speaker A:I'm sure there's probably somebody that's beat it in history.
Speaker B:I probably wouldn't have asked if, if, if, if that wasn't the case.
Speaker B:So you're right.
Speaker B:The:Speaker B:In:Speaker B:Then they lost to the Rams 31 to nothing the next week.
Speaker B:So they scored 62, then they scored 0.
Speaker B:Now get this, Darren.
Speaker B:Then the Falcons would go on to score six points the next week, nine points the week after that.
Speaker B:So they scored 62 points and then they went three weeks without scoring a touchdown or getting to 10 points.
Speaker B:And then the next two weeks they scored 46 and 41.
Speaker A:Gee, that's a little bit of inconsistency on offense, I'd say.
Speaker B:to deep dive into the bipolar:Speaker A:Yeah, okay.
Speaker A:I guess that's definitely why we have you here to tell some of that stuff like that.
Speaker B:And if we're talking about digging up, maybe we're gonna have to dig, dig up some dirt that you're not going to like here, Darren, because the Steelers are now, I went back to the start of the Brady era.
Speaker B:So essentially:Speaker B:This includes postseason in games played at New England and the average score of that game is 37 to 22.
Speaker B:They have gotten throttled by the Patriots in New England over these years.
Speaker B:And that speaks to something that you might say.
Speaker B:Well, New England's been a Super bowl team, you know.
Speaker B:Yes.
Speaker B:But over this period, the Steelers have also been a very good team.
Speaker B:And Organization that was often right with the Patriots in the afc, but they just have not been able to figure them out in Foxborough.
Speaker A:And it's, it's odd that they seems like they play in Foxborough every single year.
Speaker A:I mean, they're not in the same division, but the Steelers play at New England probably four times to one time playing in Pittsburgh.
Speaker A:Yeah, right.
Speaker B:Yes.
Speaker B:So, yeah.
Speaker B:And then staying in this in the division, we saw that deshaun Watson played quite well on Sunday in Tampa Bay.
Speaker B:He threw for over 200 yards and the Browns won.
Speaker B:Did you know it has been just under three years since DeSean Watson threw for 200 yards in a game and the Browns won three years for, for that, for that kind of money.
Speaker B:th of:Speaker B:He had 200 yards, a little over 200 yards passing, and the Browns won that game.
Speaker B:I think it was against the Ravens.
Speaker B:So Browns fans, hopefully you don't have to wait three more years for it to happen again.
Speaker A:Well, the Browns might be happy about something else because they have an emerging star on offense besides DeSean Watson's sudden appearance.
Speaker A:Rookie wide receiver Denzel Boston.
Speaker A:He put himself in the record books, joined some kind of elite company.
Speaker A:Sammy White,:Speaker A:Those are the only other players besides Boston that had 45 yards or more in their first two NFL games.
Speaker A:So.
Speaker B:Wow, that's, that's, that's pretty crazy.
Speaker A:I'm sorry.
Speaker A:45 Yard long touchdown or more.
Speaker A:I'm sorry.
Speaker B:Maybe the Browns have something cooking.
Speaker B:I buried your team, so it would only be apropos for me to do the same to mine.
Speaker B:Darren, The Washington franchises woes in Dallas continue.
Speaker B:I went back to:Speaker B:And I, I eliminated games that were played in Dallas where it didn't matter.
Speaker B:Meaning if it was a late season game and one or the other team was eliminated already.
Speaker B:I skipped those because Washington has won a couple of those.
Speaker B:But since:Speaker B:6 And 22 is, is our record in games that don't matter or that do matter.
Speaker B:I'm sorry.
Speaker B:In Dallas.
Speaker B:complete a start in Dallas in:Speaker B:He got pulled in the second half because we didn't need to win the game.
Speaker B:We were already in the playoffs last year.
Speaker B:He gets hurt in Dallas.
Speaker B:And of course, unfortunately this year he gets hurt again.
Speaker B:So it has been a nightmare in many, many different forms for Washington in Dallas over the years and I've been there for a lot of them in football, unfortunately.
Speaker A:Well, they're not the only ones because as far as Dak Prescott starting games, that's his 20th straight victory in AT T against NFC east opponents.
Speaker A:That ties a record with Tom Brady who did it for the Patriots.
Speaker A:So he's in.
Speaker A:You know, they are up against some tough odds there with Dak Prescott playing.
Speaker B:Let's, let's stop talking about that right now, Darren.
Speaker B:Let's stop.
Speaker B:That's, that's enough Dallas praise.
Speaker B:So speaking of records, Patrick Mahomes is now 8 and oh.
Speaker B:In regular season overtime games, which is the NFL record.
Speaker B:Do you know which quarterback he just passed?
Speaker A:No, I don't know.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker B:It's a surprising name.
Speaker B:Jake Plummer was previously the record holder being undefeated in overtime games.
Speaker B:I would have never guessed that.
Speaker B:So.
Speaker B:But Patrick Mahomes has bumped another off the list.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:The other thing he bumped off as he continued Indies streak.
Speaker A:That's nine straight losses for the Colts that stretches back into last season after they really started off pretty hot last year.
Speaker B:Yikes.
Speaker B:Yeah, that is scary.
Speaker B:Speaking of scary and for Giants fans, you're going to definitely want to forget this Monday night game for sure considering what has now come out about Jackson Dart.
Speaker B:But the Giants have also lost 12 of their last 13 Monday night games.
Speaker B:That's.
Speaker B:That's not good.
Speaker B:And they, they really from for the last like 15 or 20 years have a poor record on Monday Night Football.
Speaker B:But this streak they're on right now is, is really bad.
Speaker B:So 12 out of 13 losses for the Giants on Monday night.
Speaker A:Oh yeah.
Speaker A:That is a bad streak and a bad break for the young quarterback.
Speaker B:Yes sir.
Speaker B:So that's what I have in the news and notes and I am ready to talk Scoragami if you are.
Speaker A:Well let me, let me throw a couple other historic items that happened here before we get to score gummy.
Speaker B:I get so excited about score gummy that I just can't, I can't hold.
Speaker B:Contain myself.
Speaker A:Darren, we have to save score gummy for the, for the.
Speaker A:That's a great.
Speaker B:I'll try to sit still.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker A:Well, the Bengals against the Texans.
Speaker A:The Bengals did not allow a Texans touchdown in this past game this past weekend.
Speaker A:You know, played some great defense.
Speaker A:of:Speaker A:So that's maybe they got something cooking there.
Speaker A:The packers in the the jets game that happened.
Speaker A:Speaking of The jets up 17 to 7 was the pack until that fourth quarter meltdown.
Speaker A:git fourth quarter lead since:Speaker A:So the packers, hopefully they're not on a bad trend for their fans.
Speaker A:Jacksonville and Denver quarterback Bo Nix recorded his fifth time in his young career that he brought his team back from a double digit deficit.
Speaker A:That ties him with only Lamar Jackson in that same time period of Bo Nick's career.
Speaker A:And the Seahawks established a new franchise high record with their 12th consecutive win including the postseason.
Speaker A:Of course they won the super bowl, won a playoff game and the streak continues going into this year.
Speaker A:ack since Ken stabler back in:Speaker A:So that's some of our historic moments we've had from week two.
Speaker B:Some good history there.
Speaker A:Good history, yeah.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker A:I think it's time for some score gummy.
Speaker B:Okay, well first, Darren, can I, can I tell you a little story that might ruin Scoragami for you forever?
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker A:Probably no matter what I say, you're gonna tell me.
Speaker B:Yes.
Speaker B:That this is true and you're maybe your young listeners at home, I don't know, you'll have to tell me, maybe you need to cover their ears on this story.
Speaker B:So a few years ago as you, as I told you, I'm obsessed with the score gummy as anybody that is listening and doesn't know what that is.
Speaker B:That is the history of unique score scores in the NFL.
Speaker B:So if you have a final score, it's the first time it's ever happened.
Speaker B:That's a score gummy.
Speaker B:And you can look up how many times each score has happened in history.
Speaker B:And a few years ago I was explaining this to my brother in law and we were having a discussion about it and we went over it and then the next time I saw him was probably a couple weeks later and we were sitting in the same spot we were in at my in laws house when we were talking about score gummy the first time and he said, oh hey Ed, Eddie, did you see there was a, there was a scoregasm down in Atlanta.
Speaker B:And I said, I said excuse me, what?
Speaker B:He said yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker B:Remember there was a scoregasm in Atlanta.
Speaker B:And I was like what in the world are you talking about?
Speaker B:And do I need to get on a plane to Atlanta like right now?
Speaker B:What are you.
Speaker B:What are you referencing here?
Speaker B:And he says, you know what you were talking about last week with the final scores.
Speaker B:And I said, do you mean score a gami?
Speaker B:And he goes, oh, I guess.
Speaker B:Is that what you call this?
Speaker A:Orgasm?
Speaker B:So Darren, the funniest part to the story is he wasn't trying to coin a new phrase.
Speaker B:He wasn't trying to be funny.
Speaker B:That's just what came out of his mouth.
Speaker B:He was going around telling everybody that there were scoregasms.
Speaker B:And so unfortunately what this happened is I can never talk about this without having that in my head.
Speaker B:I.
Speaker B:And I am paranoid wherever I go now that I'm going to spill it out.
Speaker B:So I guess I've done it now.
Speaker B:Maybe it's better to just get it out in the open so if it ever spills out later in the year, we know.
Speaker B:I am not trying to change the name of score gummy, but if I ever get tongue tied, you'll know why.
Speaker A:Well, maybe if it's your team wins in a score gummy, you could have a scoregasm.
Speaker A:Maybe that's what it could be.
Speaker B:Now Darren, you just gave me something to root for the rest of the year with the commander.
Speaker A:We don't want to hear if you have a scoregasm.
Speaker B:That's.
Speaker A:That's all we want to say.
Speaker B:Okay?
Speaker B:Keep that to yourself.
Speaker A:That's your private life.
Speaker B:I will be rooting for it.
Speaker B:But getting back to Scoragami, we did not have a score of Gummy this week.
Speaker B:There were, there was actually.
Speaker B:There was actually nothing that was even in the top 10.
Speaker B:So there was no scores that were a 10 or 10 or fewer times.
Speaker B:Do you know which score was the most rare?
Speaker A:I'm gonna have to say the Thursday night game because that's kind of a rare score, I would think, 41 to 31 in that Buffalo and Detroit game.
Speaker B:Darren, you must be a guy that's watched some football in your life because you are exactly right that 41 to 31 has only happened 13 times.
Speaker B:ppened was also in Buffalo in:Speaker B:The Titans became the jets.
Speaker B:Is that correct?
Speaker A:That's correct.
Speaker B:Okay, yes.
Speaker B:So then like Don Maynard scored some touchdowns, had a big game for the Titans and.
Speaker B:But the Bills won that game at War Memorial Stadium.
Speaker B:And then the other thing that kind of stuck out for this week, Darren, is we did have the most common score in the history of the NFL happen again?
Speaker B:The packers beat the Jets 20 to 17.
Speaker B:That is the most common score in NFL history.
Speaker B:That was the 303rd time that has happened.
Speaker B:And for our score, a ME index week two registered a 73.18 on the scale compared to last week, which was a 53.75.
Speaker B:So like you said, week one is still in the run.
Speaker B:It still remains on top for the rarest group of scores so far this year.
Speaker B:We've only had two weeks.
Speaker B:We've only been doing this for two weeks in history, so we don't have much to compare it to.
Speaker A:But number one out of two.
Speaker B:It's one out of two.
Speaker B:Yes, sir.
Speaker B:So that's it.
Speaker B:All right.
Speaker A:Well, that is some great history, some great scorgasm scoragami.
Speaker A:And some great football history indeed.
Speaker A:With a lot of fun.
Speaker A:And we expect to have a lot more fun when we talk about this historic thing next week.
