April 22, 1876 – Here is a big anniversary for you! The very first official National League baseball game was played on this date. The contest featured the Boston Red Caps who bettered the Philadelphia Athletics, 6-5 at the Jefferson Street Grounds in Philadelphia.
The Red Caps in 1882 would become the Boston Beaneaters, 1907 the Boston Doves, 1911 the Boston Rustlers, and then in 1912 the Boston Braves. We know that the Braves change home cities to Milwaukee in 1953 and then Atlanta in 1966, where they still reside to this day.
