Sports History On This Day: April 23

April 23, 1950 – A very historic evening occurred as the first Major League day game was completed under lights. The game played in Boston as the Braves hosted the Philadelphia Phillies was the second game of a double-header. The Philadelphia Phillies won the contest 6 – 5 over the Boston Braves with the lights on.

The Braves took the first game of the day 4-3. The first full game under the lights took place years earlier on May 24, 1935, to be considered the first official night game in major league baseball history, played at Cincinnati’s Crosley Field, where once again the Phillies were the visitors against the Reds.
