August 15, 1971 – It wasn’t exactly the easiest and most rewarding way to win a title but sometimes through discouraging times a bright spot occurs. Formula 1 racer Jackie Stewart wrecked his car on lap 36 at the Austrian Grand Prix at Österreichring.
French Tyrrell driver François Cevert won the race, however, Stewart had enough points earned that he clinched his second Formula 1 World Drivers Championship despite the mishap.
