August 17, 1957 – They were accidental but talk about hitting someone when they are down. Philadelphia Phillies Hall of Fame Baseball player Richie Ashburn fouls and hits fan Alice Roth twice in the same game at bat against the New York Giants. The first foul hit ball ended up hitting her in the face breaking her nose.
The game was paused while attendants rushed to administer first aid. A few minutes later as medical personnel was attending to her to get her to triage, a second foul ball from Ashburn’s bat hit her again while she was laying on the stretcher being transported out of the stadium. We don’t make this stuff up.
