July 23, 1925 – As a child did you ever imagine yourself crushing that game-winning Grand Slam in a Major League baseball uniform? I am sure if we all search our memory banks we would find as sports fans we had a similar daydream notion at some point in our lives.
Well, how about more than one “grand salami” on baseball’s top stage? On this day New York Yankee Lou Gehrig was starting his real-life dream sequence as he hit his first of 23 career grand slam home runs. That is 92 of his 1995 career RBIs from just these 23 swings of the bat or almost 5% of the runs he drove in. Now dream about that for a moment!
