May 3, 1910 – The Intercollegiate Athletic Association of the United States is renamed the National Collegiate Athletic Association or as we know it, the NCAA.
The IAAUS organization was originally formed in 1906, shortly after President Theodore Roosevelt summoned college football rules makers to the White House to tame the game. At the organization’s fifth annual conference, IAAUS was renamed to the NCAA due to its increased influence and rapid growth to other collegiate-level athletic events.
Rules in other intercollegiate sports such as baseball, track athletics, and basketball were also subject to discussion and reform after the success the group had in the sport of football and its reform. Today the NCAA is the dominant organization for College sports in the United States.
