April 10, 1947 – Major Historic Sports Event Here! Jackie Robinson, famously put his name in ink in front of Branch Rickey, the General Manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers, to officially and bravely break the color barrier in Major League Baseball. Of course, there was a minor transaction of the Dodgers buying out the contract of Mr. Robinson from the Montreal Royals that occurred as well.
They pale in comparison, but there were a couple of other events in sports history greatly overshadowed by the headline of Jackie Robinson…
April 10, 1913 – The New York Highlanders baseball team for the first game in history were called the New York Yankees. The President of the USA, Woodrow Wilson, tossed out the first pitch at Griffith Stadium in D.C. as the Washington Senators doubled up the New York visitors 2-1.
April 10, 1949 – Legendary golfer Sam Snead won his first of 3 Green Jackets as he won the Masters at Augusta Country Club.
