June 26, 1944 – A truly interesting and unprecedented time at the ballpark in New York, but desperate times like war bring out unusual circumstances. All three New York MLB teams of the era, the Dodgers, Yankees, and Giants participated in a unique exhibition game at the Polo Grounds.
It was labeled as the “Tri-Cornered Game” that came together to play a unique 6-inning game benefiting the War Bonds cause. In the contest, each played successive innings, final score Dodgers-5, Yanks-1 & Giants-0. The game raised nearly $4.5 million as the nearly 50,000 fans enjoyed a special treat to help the war effort.
