Sports History On This Day: May 2

May 2, 1920 – It may not have been as appreciated as it should have at the time, but this was a pretty epic moment in sports history. The first game of the National Negro Baseball League was played in Indianapolis.

The association included teams from St. Louis, Chicago, Kansas City, Indianapolis, and Dayton, as well as the Cuban Stars from Havana. The League was bravely started by Hall of Famer Andrew “Rube” Foster and his fellow team owners to help fill a void that allowed African-American ballplayers to participate in the sports professionally.
