September 11, 1886 – We all know that the name of a ship named the Mayflower brings a sense of American pride and victory. What we may not realize is that there was another victorious sailing vessel that stirred American pride. It was at the 6th America’s Cup where the New York Yacht Club’s Mayflower defeated Galatea the of the Royal Northern and Clyde Yacht Club, Scotland for a 2-0 series victory.
