Sports History On This Day: September 16

September 16, 1869 – Golf’s 1st recorded hole-in-one by Tom Morris Jr. occurred at Prestwick’s 8th hole in Scotland. The hole out of his tee shot during the first round catapulted Young Tom Morris to his second of four career titles at the British Open and to think he was only 18 years old at the time.

Just because someone records the ace does not guarantee victory either, as the last time someone has done both in recent times was in 1961.
