September 23, 1845 – The first organized baseball team, the NY Knickerbockers formed, after some younger members of another less formal team the New York Baseball Club fell apart. These founders of the Knickerbockers about a week later were joined by some medical students including one named Daniel Lucius Adams.
“Doc” Adams as he was fondly called, would further organize the team and help establish formal rules to the brand of baseball that was being played. Learn more about early baseball and Doc Adams by visiting Pigpen Sports Post on Doc Adams with guest Vinny Lospinuso.
