September 8, 1894 – We may not remember who William K. L. Dickson is today but he did something never done before in sports. Under the employment of businessman/inventor Thomas Edison, Dickson filmed a boxing match for the sport’s first recorded video.
The fight was held at West Orange, New Jersey, and was an exhibition bout between world heavyweight champion James J. Corbett and Peter Courtney. Of course that same year Dickson also filmed the famous match of boxing cats as well.
