August 10, 1944 – Bucky Walters of the Cincinnati Reds pitched a whale of a game, allowing only 6 hits by the Boston Braves, and if it weren’t for some wacky and weird fielding by his defense he would have had a shutout.
However, the opposing hurler, ironically named Charley “Red” Barrett (a former Cincy player), threw only 58 pitches to shut out Walters and the Cincinnati Reds 2-0. Another former Red, Damon Phillips knocked in one of those runs for the Braves.
