August 22, 1917 – Keeping pace with the opposition is usually a good thing in sports. However, the Pittsburgh Pirates took it to a whole new level on this day.
The Bucs played in a fourth straight extra-inning game. In the contest left fielder Carson Bigbee set an MLB record of 11 at-bats in 22 innings. However, the Pirates still suffered a 6-5 loss to Brooklyn Dodgers at Ebbets Field.
