May 9, 1961 – Baltimore Oriole hitter, Jim Gentile smacked not just one, but two grand slams in a game against the Minnesota Twins at Minnesota’s Metropolitan Stadium. The slugger drove in a grand total of 9 runs during the game.
That is amazing in itself but when we learn that he had his base cleaners in the first and second innings of the game, that is truly remarkable! The Orioles won the game 13-5. Gentile would go on to have more RBIs during the 1961 season than any other player in the MLB with an outstanding 141 runs driven in on the season.
